Michigan’s best high school football teams will battle for state titles at Ford Field in today and tomorrow, including one team from the local area. In division three, Almont High School will play Lansing Catholic in hopes of earning the state title. This comes after spectators at last weekend’s game are accused to have taunted players from Detroit Denby High School. “We are saddened that the incredible accomplishments of our football team… have been overshadowed by the regrettable behavior of a handful of spectators,” said superintendent William Kalmar. He adds the district is cooperating with authorities and is attempting to identify the spectators who may have taunted the Denby players. “There is no evidence of misconduct by our football team, football coaches, or staff.” Kalmar says there is no circumstance in which it is appropriate for an adult to interject themselves in a high school event. Saturday’s game is the first state final the Almont Raiders have attended in school history.
