Ferry service has resumed between Algonac and Harsens Island following the collapse of a dock last week. According to Champion’s Auto Ferry, the first passenger vehicles crossed the North Channel of the St. Clair River Monday evening. Ferry service will resume as scheduled for the day on Tuesday for passenger vehicles only. According to a recorded message left on Champion’s Auto Ferry’s Voicemail, no loaded trucks or trailers will be allowed at this time. Additional dock work is expected over the next few days to accommodate heaver trucks and trailers. The dock on the mainland partially collapsed Wednesday into the North Channel of the St. Clair River, limiting the ferry service to passengers only. Record high water levels are believed to have contributed to the collapse.
