The Port Huron Police Department is announcing the launch of a new program designed to help those struggling with drug or alcohol addiction. The PHPD will be participating in the Hope not Handcuffs initiative, a nationwide movement which was started by Families Against Narcotics. Police say anyone is welcome to come to the Police Department lobby between the hours of 8am and 4pm Monday through Friday and ask for help. Police officers will then help direct that individual to recovery resources in the community. Over 75 volunteer “Angels” will help police assist with paperwork and provide support for the individual in need. Those with questions about the Hope not Handcuffs program can call their toll free number at 833-202-HOPE. The Port Huron Police department adds that those seeking help outside of normal business hours will not be turned away.
