The Michigan State Board of Canvassers will decide if a ballot proposal to replace the state’s flat personal income tax can move forward. The Michiganders for the Commonwealth ballot committee submitted petition wording for the Fair Tax Michigan measure that would amend the state constitution and direct officials to lower taxes for individuals making $175,000 dollars or less, or those filing jointly making $350,000 or less. People or couples making more would pay more taxes to generate at least $1.5-billion that would be split between schools and infrastructure. Once the ballot language is approved, supporters will have to gather 425,000 signatures to place the proposal on the November ballot.
