COVID-19 crisis reaches one month mark

 It has been nearly one month since the Coronavirus upended the day to day lives of those who live in the Blue Water area.  St. Clair County’s first confirmed COVID-19 case was reported March 12th. Since then, the number of cases has increased to 184 according to the St. Clair County Health Department. Of those cases, 75 people have recovered as of Friday afternoon. Four St. Clair County Residents have died from the virus since the onset of the pandemic. The majority of cases are centered in and around Port Huron. About 34-percent of the county’s COVID-19 patients are residents of the City of Port Huron or Port Huron Township.

Sanilac County reported their first confirmed COVID-19 case on March 24th. Since then, the number of positive cases has increased to 23 people. There have been 2 deaths as a result of the virus. The majority of cases in Sanilac County are in the southeast portion of the county, including the Croswell and Lexington area, home to well over half of the county’s confirmed cases so far. Lapper County has 87 cases and 6 deaths as of Friday afternoon. No geographic data was provided for Lapeer County cases. The Metro Detroit counties of Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb remain the epicenter of the disease since it’s onset. About 79-percent of Michigan’s now nearly 23,000 cases are in those three counties alone.
